Why You Need a Summer Bucket List

If you’re anything like me, you can have all the well-meaning intentions, plans, and ideas for a fun summer with your kiddos, but without a plan, before you know it summer is over, you yelled more than you wanted to and you didn’t get to do the things and make the memories you wanted to.

Having a summer bucket list is a rough plan for how you can create a fun, simple and memorable summer!

Memories take hard work. They don’t have to be expensive to make but they do take an intentional effort to create an environment for fun and memory making.

In today’s post, I’m going to walk you through how to create your own summer bucket list for your family and where to get ideas and inspiration. If you are doing laundry and you’d prefer to listen, click on over and listen to this podcast episode! Be sure to subscribe and let me know that you’re listening. Would love to hear any little wins you get from implementing this for you and your family!

Also, make sure you grab your own PDF of what I’ll be talking through today. It is free and fun and comes with access to alter the Summer Bucket List Template and make it your own!

Step 1 | Brain Dump All the Ideas

Step one is to brain dump any idea and all the ideas, big or small, that you could do with your kids this summer…all of them.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be Disney World or something expensive! We live in Florida, so Sea World is on our list, but so is feeding the ducks and making cereal necklaces. Keep in mind what this is really about. It’s really about creating pockets of time in your summer to be present with your kiddos and be silly and make memories.

Here are some great places to get ideas

  • Pinterest
  • Share with your girlfriends and swap ideas
  • Local moms groups’
  • Splash Pads
  • Local Events

Step 2 | Refine Your List

Now that you’ve made your huge brain dump list, it’s time to refine it and narrow down your top 40 things.

Use page 5 of the PDF to list out your items to go on your summer bucket list. If you don’t have the PDF yet, get it below.

Step 3 | Make Your List Pretty

This is a totally optional step! For some of you, (raising my hand) making printables makes you happy. If it does, do it! I’ve included a link to a Canva template for you to use and create your own. If printables don’t make you happy and stress you out, don’t do it.

Either way, keep your list or printable visible and make a game out of crossing things off with your kids.

Grab the PDF here to get access to the printable! Enjoy and DM me on Instagram for any questions you have about editing the template.

Step 4 | Document Those Summer Days

This is my favorite step! All throughout summer as you check things off and are having a blast making memories, document those days.

If you’re on Instagram, use the hashtag #2018summerbucketlist and tag me @katiefleming! I’d love to follow along with your summer and see how you’ve made this your own and as a tool for a fun summer for your family!

See you on the GRAM!
